Snaefellsjökull is a vulcano topped with a glacier- The vulcano is almost 1500 m high and on clear days can be seen from Reykvjavik which is approximately 120 km further south. Here seen in the light of the setting midnight sun from a coastal walkway in Reykjavik.

Wonderful pic of the Icelandic volcanic glacier, Maria. I remember seeing this when I was visiting the island. In fact, I had never felt in a more remote place in my life. Perfect photo for the theme.

Thanks! I agree, there are a lot of remote places in Iceland. Lava deserts, glaciers and vulcanos and far between the houses. Majestic and lonely at the same time.

If you visit in winter, a visitor has the impression that an accident, snowfall, avalanche could affect one, at any time. The Icelandic folk are very hardy and can withstand almost anything i think.
